It started with a Facebook status, and became a series of explanations.
It wasn’t what I had anticipated but between the bad grammar usage and the constant explanation, I realized that what I had decided to do really couldn’t be understood unless someone could stand in my shoes.
I had decided to take a hiatus, or, as I like to call it, “pull an Adele.” The hustle was too much in light of all the transition I was about to experience.
To some, that sounded like an escape, an excuse to give up. Why one earth would I take a break from a passion I had invested two years in?
But to me, it was all about priorities. You see, I’m recently engaged, about to become a citizen and enter into a new season of life with my best friend. And it wasn’t at all about giving up or closing a chapter. It was about inserting a semicolon in a life – just a small pause to build a foundation to truly thrive in life.
At first, I didn’t understand some of the reactions I received but now I get that it’s truly just a matter of perspective. As it always is.
We can decide if we want to see the glass half empty or half full. We can decide to let one bad moment ruin our entire day, or to dust ourselves off and get back up again. You can decide to be a victim or a victor. It just depends on your mindset.
It’s all about perspective. Remember that.
