Wow. I am surprised to see so little on the Internet about this. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am currently dealing with this 6 months postpartum.
I went in about a month ago to have what my midwife referred to as a “labial bridge adhesion” cut and separated without any numbing. It hurt but the area was small so she finished very quickly. Shortly after that appointment I discovered a large labial adhesion that we missed. I will likely need surgery to separate it but I’ll find out at my appointment next week. After reading all these stories I think I’ll skip the cream. I am so nervous and my husband doesn’t seem to understand that this is a big deal. He thinks I’m over reacting, but I am just ready to have my body back. We had a traumatic birth and postpartum experience. The past 6 months have been difficult for our family and I’m just ready to have my body and my life back. Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone in this.

Just had my procedure done for my labial adhesion, this is 9 months PP so I am definitely relieved to have a fixed vagina – yay!
It’s so nice to read these stories and know you’re not some random medical marvel! Definitely helps not to feel alone. My recovery has been somewhat smooth sailing, although I wasn’t told how long to use the gauze for? I ordered my own from Amazon as they only gave me enough for couple of days but I still feel I need it to prevent it happening again! My worst fear is being back to square one..

My recovery time was a week.

As for it happening again, I have not had my labia fuse again! However, I understand the concern about that happening. I would suggest using the estrogen cream and gauze to separate the labia beyond the 2 tubes if you get concerned. Of course, check with your medical professional first!

Thank you so much for providing your experience! As a 25 year old who has not experienced childbirth, I was not expecting to have labial adhesions. I was diagnosed end of April 2021 and tried estrogen cream all summer in order to avoid surgery. Unfortunately, the estrogen cream was not successful and I was scheduled for surgery. I had the surgery this morning and am already at home resting (5 hours later). The surgeon did have to stitch to the sides as the clitoris was starting to fuse as well. I have to use estrogen cream 4-5 times daily until 2 tubes are used. I’m hoping I won’t have a reoccurence. Question for you: How long was your recovery time? How long did you have pain?

Thank you so much for writing this article and to everyone who has commented. It makes me feel less alone. I gave birth at home 12 weeks ago and had a smooth birth aside from several labial tears. I was told everything was normal at my 3 week appt and then the midwives found labial fusion at my 6 week postpartum visit (an OB saw me a day prior and actually missed this diagnosis and thought it was remnants of a hymenal ring). I was prescribed the estrogen cream and after no results with a month of using it and manual stretching, I am getting surgery in 2 days on the 19th. Wish me luck! I would like to use IV sedation with local anesthesia, but the surgeon has said she is recommending spinal, so we’ll see. Thank you for the info about aftercare

I’m currently facing a similar dilemma, except that I haven’t given birth and we’re not quite sure what caused the adhesions in the first place. I’m scheduled to have a similar procedure in a few days and it was so nice to have your perspective on this given that there’s so little information on this topic. Anyways, I hope all is well with you and your family!
