How do you have money to maintain acrylic, hair, AND makeup every month?
It’s the million-dollar question a lot of us ask when it comes to grooming for women.
We can’t help it when we see the photos of women in our social media feeds all dolled up on a regular weekday.
Like, first of all, who has time to put on a full face of makeup before they leave the house? Especially if you have kids.
And then there’s the lady in the office who’s hair is always styled perfectly and on-trend.
Usually, we convince ourselves that she must be rich, single or both.
But all of these are assumptions so let’s get to the bottom of it all.
The Truth About Grooming For Grown Women
Grooming for women involves more than acrylic nails, hair, and makeup. It also includes skin care, massages, spa days, waxing, and so much more!
Of course, the idea is that a woman has the resources to accomplish all of these grooming habits.
But here’s the truth, every woman has her own customized routine based on what she thinks is important.
For some women, they only get their nails done.
For others, they focus on nails, makeup and hair.
There are some women who solely spend money on esthetician services, such as facials, waxing, and microdermabrasion.
And then there a few women who are able to do a wider range of grooming using some unique and affordable methods.
In reality, the sky is the limit.
You just have to find the routine that works best for you.
How I Prioritize My Grooming as a Wife, Mom, and Working Professional
As a multifaceted woman who juggles a lot of roles, I’ve chosen to focus on grooming that makes me happy and comes the most natural to me, which is hair and nails.
I set money aside for my nails so I can get them professionally done consistently but I’ve also used press-on nails in the past. Plus I’ve indulged in the occasional pedicure.
And since I’ve created a reputation for changing my hair every 6 weeks, many people have assumed that I always paid for my latest look.
But the truth is, for grooming my hair, I switch between visiting a hairstylist, using wigs, and styling my own hair in protective styles. The choice is based on the bandwidth of my family budget, my skillset and my time.
That’s not all, though!
I make a point to invest in my hair care products because I value the health of my hair, especially because I transform it so much. In fact, after giving birth to my baby girl, I opted for a customized hair care solution, which has been a great help!
I still have a tiny makeup collection, and I bug my husband for a massage every now and then. I also pop into Target occasionally to get a face mask, and I’ll try some samples out.
But at the end of the day, I’ve made a decision on my grooming priorities and any expansion into other areas is cautious and sporadic at best.
You should feel free to do the same!
There really isn’t a cookie-cutter approach. Try different things, and then stick with what flows.
