Allow me to ask you a strange question: Have you ever considered dressing how you decorate your room, house or apartment? I have! Weird right?
Well, not so much. It’s no secret that I love colors but the trick behind my style is my consistent use of color palettes. Whether I’m shopping, planning an outfit or rushing to get ready in the morning, I always use a color palette to guide my choices.
Now, truth be told, most people tend to only use color palettes when building a website, or decorating a room in a house but that’s not all they’re good for. In fact, having a few go-to color palettes can be a time saver, and it can expand your horizons on how to pair the already-existing pieces of your wardrobe.
Here’s an example.
I recently bought some copper pants just because I loved the rich color. (I tend to do that a lot lol). However, by the time I returned home and wanted to wear them to work, I had no idea what in my wardrobe to pair them with. Yup, I said what every woman says at least 3,000 times in here life – “I’ve got nothing to wear!” But ten minutes into my despair, I remembered my trustworthy inspiration go-to, Pinterest. (Seriously, it helps me out of some serious creative blocks).
I typed in ‘copper color palette’ in the search bar and like a magic mirror, I saw all these options. I didn’t even go too far until my heart settled on this bike-inspired palette.
It was a match-made in heaven. I didn’t specifically have every color in the palette in my closet but I had copper pants, my hair was blonde and I had a navy blue coat. That could definitely pull it off.
And it did.
And I still remember that day. I felt like had uncovered some unknown style guide that’s doable and accessible for anyone. Not only that, it bypassed trends and helped save money. All things I love despite the fact that I am a shopping addict!
