Having fun and making memories with family doesn’t always require money!
And I have to constantly remind myself of this.
Especially in the summer, when it seems like everyone is taking a well-deserved trip to the beach.
The truth is, I’d love to relax as close to the Caribbean sea as possible but that’s not always a possibility. So I’ve learned to find the little things where I live that have the same effect.
Surprise, surprise!
It turns out that a pool hour or two with my little family has become my perfect slice of heaven.
Our Summer Pool Days
Have you ever thought about what small thing helps you to relax?
Ever since our trip back to Barbados last January, my husband and I realized that a tropical state of mind helped us to rest and recharge, especially on the weekends.
And the bonus was that our daughter absolutely LOVED it.
So during these summer months, my little family and I have made the short trek to the nearby pool to take a break from the grind, and enjoy time with each other.
All we took with us was our swimwear, disposable swim diapers for our baby girl, and our Under The Canopy Tesalate Beach Towel.
Super cute, right?
But how can you bring the same energy into your everyday life?
How To Have A Mindful Approach To Making Memories With Family
(1) Determine What IS Relaxing
First, you have to answer the question I shared earlier.
What small things help you to relax?
Understanding this about each member of your immediate family (and extended as well) will help you decide what to do when you spend time together.
You won’t be able to please everyone BUT you will be able to get everyone engaged in a common purpose.
(2) Plan & Do One of These Relaxing Things Each Weekend
Let’s say you’re like my family who lives in the Midwest, and you all love to spend a relaxing day by the beach.
Consider going to the pool, or a nearby water park!
Or if you are lucky enough to live close to the beach, make it a day trip!
But if you’re family relaxes better by being in nature, consider taking a hike, or having a picnic at a local park.
Remember, it doesn’t have to cost you a ton of money or be a grand event.
It just has to be a collection of beautiful moments that you get to enjoy with the people you love most.
(3) Take Photos
I came across this quote on Pinterest:
A photograph is a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone
I’m not sure who said it but I genuinely believe its message!
Enjoying the moments that you spend with your loved ones is a great part of making memories with family. However, taking photos of those beautiful moments can also be captured and immortalized in photos, or videos.
Why?
Because now you don’t have to just rely on your memory, you can also look through photos and watch old videos and be transported right back to that moment and relive it all over again – the laughs, the fun, and the love.
And by the way, these photos aren’t necessarily for social media.
These photos are for you and your loved ones to treasure for years to come!
Now, I know that summer officially ends soon, and pool days will come and go, but take the time to invest in making memories with the people you love!
You will never regret it!
