I would be lying to you if I said that the outfit I’m about to share is completely my own. In fact, the thought of wearing this pleated floral dress completely originated with my photographer, Susie of Coldren Photography.
I was looking forward to Saturday for one reason only – it was photoshoot day. And it wasn’t just any shoot, it was a shoot with a cause.
That cause is the Dress for Success Columbus Dine. Drink. Dress event – a night of fashion, fun and philanthropy in support of helping women out of tough situations. It’s one that I am honored to participate in as a blogger because I strongly believe in using my influence and platform to give back.
So as I got ready for the shoot with my beloved artist in Thread, a local boutique, I perused the store, carefully choosing outfits that I had no doubt reflected my personal style. However, I completely ignored a gorgeous white printed and pleated floral dress in my search, only to hear my photographer say, “Oh my gosh! I love this dress.”
I acknowledged her but only by saying, “That is so you” – subtly inferring that I could definitely see her wearing the item but that florals were not for me. And she agreed. And that was that. Well, until she admired the dress again.
“You should try it on,” she urged.
I gave in. Maybe this dress wasn’t too cute and flirty after all.
When I put it on, I felt like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex In The City and like Kate Middleton, now a member of the British royal family. I felt like a princess, timeless and chic. And to think I almost missed out on that moment in time because of my stubbornness!
Have you ever fell in love with a piece of clothing that someone else had to talk you into?
